The National Institute for Social Media (NISM) Social Media Strategist (SMS) exam validates the foundational skills required of general social media practitioners. The exam assesses candidates’ knowledge in the following six social media content domains defined by the NISM Industry Advisory Committee:
- Strategic Planning
- Compliance & Governance
- Project Management
- Marketing & Communications
- Online Community Management
- Research & Analysis
A passing score on the SMS exam is a requirement for SMS certification, and signifies a minimum level of comprehension of the essential duties required for success as a Social Media Strategist.
